Gift and Hobby Show History
The always-popular Gift & Hobby Show sponsored by Delta Theta Tau, Zeta Lambda Chapter in Shelbyville, Indiana celebrates its 50th year when the show opens at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022 inside the Shelbyville Middle School, 1200 W. McKay Road. What a great time to start holiday shopping for those unique, one-of-a-kind, gifts.
Shoppers will be able to visit more than 120 vendors until 3 p.m., with each featuring treasures like craft items, toys, floral creations, jewelry, handmade fabric items, decorations for the home, wood creations, holiday décor, homemade candies and baked items and much more. Lunch and refreshments will also be available for purchase.
The event is one of the sorority’s largest fundraisers of the year. Profits from booth fees and food sales help fund scholarships for local high school students. Stipends are also given to various non-profit, charitable organizations throughout the county.
The show's first year in 1972 and multiple years thereafter came together with no advertising to get participants. Fewer than 50 vendors set up their wares on the floor inside the former National Guard Army building on Washington Street across from The Salvation Army. The growth has been impressive ever since.
Sorority members have estimated a minimum of 1,000 people visit this popular show annually. It offers something for all ages, whether male or female. No admission has ever been charged.
